Video: Obama displays personal appeal on Conan

Picclip051406productionobamaobrienFriday night on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", Democratic Barack Obama was the guest.  Even better for him, Conan took the show on the road to Chicago, making the Senator from Illinois feel right at home.  They covered just abut everything, from barber shops to the 2008 presidential campaign:

OBAMA: "I think that's what has been happening in the White House lately.  Try, just throw anything against the refrigerator and see if it sticks.

O'BRIEN: "Well, let me ask you something.  You know, President Bush is famous for nicknames.  Has he tried to give you a nickname?  He tries to, he loves to give everybody --"

OBAMA: "You know, the thing -- I can't tell whether he's trying to give me a nickname, or whether he just can't pronounce my name."

O'BRIEN: "Give him the benefit of the doubt."

OBAMA: "Sometimes he calls me 'Bama'...sometimes he calls me 'rak'"

They also joked about how Obama will pick Conan for his VP choice if he runs -- that is sure an amusing thought.

This guy is the real deal.  Obama appeared very easy-going, relaxed and well-adjusted.  Not too many Senators these days have the humility to make fun of themselves on national television and really connect to mass audiences like Obama.  Americans have always liked politicians who can pull that off.  Hopefully between now and the day when Obama eventually runs for president he will not become too much like the average ego-based Senator.
