Is Lieberman really a friend of democracy?

It's official: the incumbent Senator from Connecticut plans to abandon his party if he loses.  Today, Joseph Lieberman filed the necessary forms allowing him to run as an Independent candidate should he lose on August 8th to Democratic challenger Ned Lamont.

You never really know whether or not someone truly believes in democracy until that individual is elevated to a position of power.  This is a case of a politician who is addicted to his own thirst for power, and is refusing to respect the will of the people if he should lose the August 8th primary.  In a nutshell, what Lieberman is saying is that he will only listen to voters if they do what he wants.  But that is not how democracy works.  If you are a Republican or Democrat and your own party votes you out, then it is disrespecting those very voters to put yourself above their will.  Without their will, the United States would not be the great country it is today, capable of endless possibility.

Joe Lieberman and his people need to learn a thing or two about showing respect for our democratic system.  And this comes from the same man who repeats the Bush line about using the barrel of a gun to spread democracy around the world.  But how can you even say you want to spread democracy when your actions contradict that very ideal?

Now that Lieberman has been exposed for what he truly is, it's up to grassroots voters to show him the door.  One way to do that is by contributing to the Ned Lamont Campaign, giving the challenger more resources to expose Lieberman to the rest of Connecticut.
