3.21.07 Blue Radar

Each morning I post some of the miscellaneous politicalstories thatmight not deserve their own posts, but are still news-worthy.  Be sure to check out The Blue State on Youtube, which is located under "Menu."  It includes all of the political videos that are featured on this site:

  • There is a lot of buzz throughout the blogosphere about Chris Matthews' verbal whacking of Tom DeLay on Hardball yesterday.  Markos Moulitsas of Daily Kos gave us the low-down: "Matthews grilled DeLay about passages in his book where he apparentlyripped into fellow corrupt Texan Dick Armey, eventually asking theHammer about describing Armey as 'drunk with ambition.' DeLay deniedwriting that. 'I wrote that he was 'blinded by his ambition.' Matthewsstarts flipping though the book and finds the 'drunk with ambition'quote and reads it to Bug Man. And DeLay keeps denying it. Finally,Chris hands the book to Tom and tells him to read it himself. DeLaylooks down, pauses, and says 'I don’t have my glasses.'"  The video of that exchange is here.
  • John Edwards will hold a news conference this morning to discuss the health of his wife.  John accomanied Elizabeth to the doctor on Wednesday.  The New Republic is rumoring (with no sources to back it up) that Edwards might drop out of the race.  (All of us send our prayers to Elizabeth.  Hopefully this news won't be anything bad.)
  • Phil de Vellis, a contributor to Huffington Post, admitted that he was the one who made the Hillary video.  It just shows how the internet enables ordinary citizens to affect the presidential campaign.  (Now that's populism!)
  • A new Gallup poll finds that 59% think the effects of global warming have already begun.  30% say they have not.  Only 8% say the effects will never happen.  (So much for the left-wing conspiracy.)
  • In Pennsylvania, Clinton leads Obama 35% to 25%, with Edwards in third at 13%.  Strategic Vision, a GOP firm, conducted this poll.
  • A House subcommittee has authorized subpoenas for White House aides, including Karl Rove.  Remember, just because subpoenas have been authorized does not mean they have been given.  The Senate Judiciary Committee will decide today whether to give them.
  • Coronary-heart disease is the leading cause of death among firefighters.
  • Rio DeAngelo, the sole survivor of the Heavens Gate mass suicide, is finally speaking out.
  • Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour convinced the state legislature to kill a measure that would have increased the cigarette tax.  (It looks like the tobacco lobbyists win this round.)
  • According to a new U.S. Census report, Arizona and South Dakota are among some of the fastest-growing states in the country.

If these stories are old news to you, let me know.  Feel free to add any new stories in the commentbox.

Tom Delay is so pathetic. He is running around pushing his book, when in reality he should be humbling himself and keeping his head in the sand for a while longer. On top of Merideth Vieria's interview of him (with video) , he now got beat up again by Mathew's. Delay not only CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, he Can't TELL the truth! The News Busters (a conservative right wing blog) delivers their take of Meredith's interview  "Tom DeLay Hammers Meredith Vieira" , they naturally don't post the video, because CLEARLY Delay doesn't "hammer" anyone, watch the video, then read the News Busters "Spun Out Of Control" story.
