Daschle's move

The WSJ is reporting that Jim Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell want to create a bipartisan think-tank that unifies the country on a number of key issues:

Four former majority leaders who used to battle on the Senate floorplan to launch next week a “Bipartisan Policy Center” to encourageRepublicans and Democrats to work together on national security, energyand agriculture issues. With funding from philanthropic organizations, former Democratic leaders Daschle and Mitchell, and Republicans Dole and Baker, aim to develop what a spokesman calls the “best ideas from the left and right” and then build “political momentum.”

This is only relevant because earlier this week I was discussing politics with a veteran of the South Dakota political scene.  The source was saying how many of the key players that used to work for Daschle are now with Obama.  Could Daschle be thought of as a possible VP pick if Obama gets the nomination?

Remember, let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Many things can happen between now and this time next year.  But other than obviously Mark Warner of Virginia, Daschle, who endorsed Obama last month, might be recommended as the VP choice by Obama's inner circle, since many of them are from South Dakota.

Bottom line: if Daschle is Obama's VP pick, then the fact that the former majority leader was part of a bipartisan think-tank might sound refreshing to many voters that are sick of the hyper-partisanship in Washington.
