3.13.07 Blue Radar

Each morning I post some of the miscellaneous politicalstories thatmight not deserve their own posts, but are still news-worthy.  Be sure to check out The Blue State on Youtube, which is located under "Menu."  It includes all of the political videos that are featured on this site:

  • The White House is preparing for the likelihood that Congress will subpoena Karl Rove and question him about the scandal involving the eight federal prosecutors that were suddenly fired.  "If we receive such a request, we would consider it in the ordinary course and respond appropriately," a White House spokeswoman said.
  • Senator Chris Dodd officially announced his candidacy for president on the Daily Show last night.
  • Kevin Kiley, Army Surgeon General, has stepped down in the wake of the Walter Reed scandal.
  • According to a new CNN Poll, 69% of Americans oppose a presidential pardon for Scooter Libby.
  • A report submitted by a congressional commission examines just how far the National Guard and Reserve are over-stretched.  (And it ain't pretty!)
  • After closed-door negotiations, both the House and Senate are about to submit legislation that would create a guest worker program for illegal migrants, giving them a path to citizenship if they follow the law and pay taxes.
  • Al Sharpton is holding back his support for Barack Obama out of frustration that the Illinois Senator traveled to Connecticut to help Joe Lieberman's campaign before the '06 August primary vs Ned Lamont.  "Senator Obama and I agree that the war is wrong, but then I want toknow why he went to Connecticut and helped [Sen. Joseph] Lieberman, thebiggest supporter of the war," the Reverend Al Sharpton said.
  • Ron Paul, a Republican, has declared his candidacy for the '08 Republican presidential nomination.
  • The Democrats are cutting and running -- from their conscience!  Democrats have announced that they will no longer decide to limit the President's ability to engage in war with Iran.
  • Marjorie Cohn of AlterNet looks at how eight former U.S. prosecutors were replaced by Bush loyalists.
  • OPINION: Mark my words, right here.  Today's NYT reports how dissatisfied GOP voters are with their batch of '08 candidates.  Eventually, Jeb Bush will come to the rescue and be drafted into the race by Evangelical conservative voters.  The religious right won't like Giuliani, McCain and especially not Romney.  Brownback and Huckabee do not excite anyone.  Again, mark my words -- Jeb Bush will be drafted.
