3.16.07 Blue Radar

Each morning I post some of the miscellaneous politicalstories thatmight not deserve their own posts, but are still news-worthy.  Be sure to check out The Blue State on Youtube, which is located under "Menu."  It includes all of the political videos that are featured on this site:

  • Last month, a Time Magazine poll showed Clinton leading Obama among southern Democrats by 23 points.  As of a few days ago, that lead is now down to 4 points.
  • Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) is urging Democratic lawmakers to steer clear of Stephen Colbert.
  • An email released yesterday implicated Karl Rove in the firing of eight federal prosecutors.  (Surprise, surprise!  Actually, not a surprise.  Sites like this one reported back on February 7th about Karl Rove's involvement.)
  • A GOP strategist with White House ties says that Alberto Gonzales is "finished."
  • By a 50 to 48 vote yesterday, the Senate rejected a May, 2008 deadline to remove troops from Iraq.  (Question: how come Hagel didn't vote for it?  He must really be considering an '08 run then.)
  • GOP presidential candidate Sam Brokeback Brownback said he agreed with General Pace that gay acts are immoral.  "We should not expect someone as qualified, accomplished and articulate as General Pace to lack personal views on important moral issues," Brownback said. "In fact, we should expect that anyone entrusted with such great responsibility will have strong moral views."  (Welcome to Brownback's Orwellian world, where politicians care what goes on in the bedroom.)
  • Here is a look at some of Barack Obama's highest donors.
  • The WSJ predicts a major rise in Afghan violence this spring, as Al Qaeda plans an offensive.
  • An excerpt of Bush's speech at a GOP fundraiser on Thursday night: "Some in the Congress are using this bill as an opportunity to micro-manage our military commanders, or to force a precipitous withdrawal in Iraq, or threaten vital funding for Iraqi security forces, and fund projects that have nothing to do with the war on terror. I believe the members of Congress are sincere when they support our troops. And now is the time for them to show that support. Our men and women in uniform are risking their lives and they need the firm support of the United States Congress."  (If I hear the word micro-manage again, I'm going to pull my hair out.)
