Newt Hypocrite

While jump-starting the effort to impeach Bill Clinton for the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an affair of his own:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledgedhe was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge againstPresident Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged inan interview with a conservative Christian group.

"Thehonest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republicanpresidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Familyfounder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcriptprovided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallenshort of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallenshort of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

Oh, of course -- no hypocrisy at all.

That just about axed his '08 presidential chances.

I don't know that this hurt his chances for the Republican nomination in 2008.

Everybody already knew about his affair at the time, when he was called a hypocrite and eventually had to resign as Speaker of the House. Whether he admitted it or not, it's been a "known" since the late 1990s when it was actaully going on. His popularity has only grown among Republicans since then.

Just a general comment:

Newt seems to be the closest candidate that appears to be an extension of Bush in regards to the rights of Americans. Just his free speech feelings, seems he may be ok with taking away even more rights of the people.

Don't get me wrong here, I understand that we can't post a weekly "The latest secrets of the US" on the web, however on the same note we can't have a "weekly break down of the constitution" either.

Not a hipocryte?Yeah Right--if lieing-cheating-commiting adultery-and who knows what else while trying to prose--cute someone else for the same thimg is not being a hypocrite I would like to know what is.

Aside from the fact he can't deny -- that he is indeed a hypocrite -- his current wife needs to remember the wise words of my old grandma..."Honey, if he'll do it with you, he'll do it to you." I hope #3 has a good attorney lined up because she's going to need it.

ARLEN, maybe you are right. But every single Republican friend that I have who I mentioned this to in the past tried to deny it, and was like, "Quit making stuff up, Todd."

Many Republicans get their news from strange sources -- like Fox, the 500 Club, and so-on. Could you imagine Fox News bringing something like this up like five years ago? I couldn't.

Again though, maybe you are right. It seems like there are a group of activist Republicans that will admire him no matter what.

TONY good point. It's interesting how so many self-proclaimed defenders of the first amendment will only do so if it deals with their own free speech. But when it comes to other people, they favor censorship.

J ELKINS and EVA -- I second what the both of you wrote. :)

Sir, its not that I think you were a hypocryt when it came to Bill Clinton. You sir are one of the most two faced liar hypocryts the right has ever produced. You would say anything to anyone who would listen just to get what you wanted. All the while leading your charge for the DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT and CONTRACT WITH AMERICA two of the most rediculous notions against our gay brothers and sisters it was YOU that marriage needed protection from, you and your right wing bigots...

Amen, Steve. Amen!

Gingrich.....another sanctimonious creep. All bad behavior is forgiven if you hide behind so-called "religious conviction". Oh puh-leeez spare me......

Todd, you make a good point. We should never underestimate the level of informedness or uninformedness of some of these right-winger faux-news-watchers....

One more thing, guys. When Gingrich had the extra-marital affair, his wife was having cancer surgery. The guy is a total hypocrite.
