WTC victim remains used to fill potholes
By now, this story might already be old news to you -- if you watched Countdown with Keith Olbermann yesterday, or heard about it over the weekend. For the rest of you that are not familiar with this revelation, prepare to get angry. When you consider what this is about, it might very well be the most underplayed news story on the internet.
Back in 2001, bodies were from the WTC site in the most insensitive way possible (please do your best to not punch the keyboard while reading this):
The pulverized remains of bodies from the World Trade Centerdisaster site were used by city workers to fill ruts and potholes, acity contractor says in a sworn affidavit filed Friday in ManhattanFederal Court.
Eric Beck says debris powders - known as fines - were put in apothole-fill mixture by crews at the Fresh Kills landfill on StatenIsland, N.Y., where more than 1.65 million tons of World Trade Centerdebris were deposited after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"I observed the New York City Department of Sanitation taking thesefines from the conveyor belts of our machines, loading it onto tractorsand using it to pave roads and fill in potholes, dips and ruts," EricBeck said.
Maybe it would not be a bad idea to put this guy under oath in front of Congress, and then lawmakers could launch a full investigation.
Question: did Mayor Giuliani know about this happening? If he did, how did he take action?
