Bush approval at 28%

President Bush's job approval rating has fallen to 28%, the lowest level of his presidency, according to a new Harris Poll released today:

"How would you rate the job President Bush is doing –excellent, pretty good, only fair, or poor?"

Excellent - 7%
Pretty Good - 22%
Only Fair - 22%
Poor - 48%

Positive - 28%, Negative - 70%

And don't turn away just yet.  Cheney's approval rating is at an all-time Harris Poll low as well:

"How would you rate the job Vice President Dick Cheney is doing –excellent, pretty good, only fair, or poor?"

Excellent - 5%
Pretty Good - 20%
Only Fair - 25%
Poor - 44%

Positive - 25%, Negative - 69%

Yet, President Bush thinks he can fight his war without any congressional oversight, and ignore bipartisan calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to be fired.  Bush is not only disconnected from most Americans, but his own party as well.

same question 2wice?

Thanks for the correction. Just changed it.

I'm no Bush fan, but 7 22=29%, not 28%. Which is the correct total?

Bob lily...
6.6 21.6 = 28.2

This is common in stats. 7 may really be 6.8 and 22 may really be 21.5. That equals 28.3 and the result is rounded down.

WTF get him out of there already, the world awaits. Enough with the presidential respect, he's a bastard, power hungry ignorant fool who can't give us a straight answer on why he's spending so much money and resources in Iraq, spreading the country thin, making the world hate us. There are people dieing at the hands of this man, and he calls himself a Christian for what ever that's worth. How can he hide behind this veil of deceit and the american people re-elect and support him for the most part. Don't you think supporting this man increases the chances of being attacked on the homeland by some hate-full people that lost their family and lives because of Americas War On Terror. We need change now, it's getting quite claustrophobic living under this right wing cunt of a president.

Thanks guys for bringing this up. I checked for myself, and what I did write for the post was accurate. I think those numbers were rounded. So Rudy was right...those are common stats.

I wonder what rock bottom is? Some of these people would vote positive if Cheney and Bush nuked half the planet as long as it wasn't their half and it brought Jesus back sooner

Okay sure, but the statistics for this survey is flawed. They only ask about 1000 americans over the phone.

That's not nearly enough to have an accurate figure.

Hey, even if they asked 10,000,000, Im not sure the stats would change. Nothing will change the fact that he will go down in history as the very worst president, EVER!!! Oh well, little more to go before someone else is elected....

DaTruth is right. What's unique about statistics is that as long as the sample is sufficiently representative of the entire population, the percentage breakdown of 1000 respondents while be virtually identical to the percentage breakdown of 10 million respondents within a small margin of error (which is why polls generally have the little plus or minus 3% disclaimer.) Error usually comes from asking biased or loaded questions, or from a sample pool that's not representative of the entire population. Rarely does error come from the actual size of the sample. When statistical polls are done right, they are surprisingly accurate.

Excellent - 7%
Pretty Good - 22%
Only Fair - 22%

So Only Fair is a negative statistic now? These poll reporting techniques are designed against our President. Add up 22, 22, and 7 and you get 51%. Add to the fact that they only poll 1,000 people and you have yourself one inaccurate poll.

I'm likely going to get hammered for this but it looks like the 'approval' percentage is 51%...

Who here has ever been fired because they did an adequate job? One synonym for fair is ample, and most meanings if not all of the word are in the positive light. How can you automatically declare the phrase 'he does a pretty fair job' into a negative comment?

I believe the same Harris poll showed Senate Majority leader Harry Reid to be at 22 percent. I guess liberals will want to throw him out too. Huh? Check it out.

Oh, for crying out loud!!

duh… only fair is as shitty as pretty good is excellent. 4 steps poor, fair, good… great. including fair as negative is as fair as inclucing good as positive. if anything your argument should skew for more positive results as there would be more positive options than negative. like… if you asked fantastic, great, good vs poor and adding the first 3 still only gave you 50% that is pretty sad.

I wish he would have planned a way to exit the war. I think it'll be embarrassing for us to leave because congress mandates it.

I'm definitely not a fan of the current administration, but I have to agree....deeming "only fair" as negative is pushing the envelope. Let's not fall into the same crowd of right wing extremists by manipulating or misconstruing information.

So, what are the numbers in Texas?

22 7 = 29, not 28 lol... Also a "fair job" in office is not a negative opinion, just an indifferent one. lol this is the most pathetic and biased web-site I have ever seen, I can't believe anybody takes it seriously.

I thought the same thing.
"fair" rating is kinda neutral, not a negative.

I know his ratings are low, congress is LOWER, but that poll is silly.

They should come up with a better system.. then allow for a "fair" response to be neither good nor bad.

Who really gives a rip about a V.P.s rating? his office is a non issue anyway.. oh except for Chenney, who is the devil behind simple Georgey-boy..right?
Where is Rove's approval pole?
Damn these incomplete poles..damn them to Hell!

On the subject of VP's, I really disagree with many progressives who think the VP should have pretty much no role in policy. Gore didn't have enough influence, in my view. Cheney has a bit too much. So somewhere maybe in between. Under this administration, Cheney's poll numbers are quite relevant. That's just my view.

I agree that back in April I should not have even posted this poll, since it was a bit flawed.

Personally I think Bush sucks at beingpresident!!!!
