Dems-FL: Clinton way ahead
In states like Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, the race is relatively close between the top three candidates: Clinton, Obama and Edwards.
In the case of , it's not even close (3/27 Quinnipiac University study of registered Florida Democrats):
FLORIDA DEMOCRATS
Hillary Clinton - 36%
Al Gore - 16%
Barack Obama - 13%
John Edwards - 11%
No one else with more than 2%
And this is scary news for Obama and Edwards. Florida, as is California and New Jersey, is moving its contest up to February 5th. However, unlike California, the winner of Florida only gets a percentage of the delegates as opposed to all of them.
The reason this is significant is that Florida has been a huge battleground state and that the '08 election will likely swing on the Florida vote. Gore and Kerry both would have been elected President if they had won close elections in this battleground state. California is not important in that sense no matter how early their primaries are.
