As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:
- Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have their support for a Senate bill being proposed this week that would cut off funds for the Iraq war on March 31, 2008.
- General has been by George W. Bush has his Administration's "War Czar", a brand new cabinet level position. Lute must first be confirmed by the Senate.
- House Democrats recently to Alberto Gonzales demanding information and documents into why Todd Graves was fired. Graves was the ninth U.S. Attorney to be fired in less than one year.
- When World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz's staff objected to the pay raise he gave to his girlfriend, Wolfowitz , "If they f*** with me or Shaha, I have enough on them to f*** them too." This episode was revealed thanks to a key witness in the investigation.
- Fred Thompson has encouraged Michael Moore to visit a "mental institution." Watch the . It all started when Thompson criticized Moore's visit to Cuba during the filming of a documentary on health care. Moore responded and challenged Thompson to a debate. This was Thompson's latest response. (Just so you know, the next time someone challenges you to a debate, just say they belong in a mental institution. It works every time! Plus, it makes you sound so smart.)
- According to a Wednesday article in the , back in 2004 FBI Director Robert Mueller and Attorney General John Ashcroft threatened to resign over the Bush wiretap issue. Then-White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales supported the policy, which may have been one of the main reasons why he was eventually nominated as the next Attorney General. As the article continued, "Mr. Bush quelled the revolt over the program’s legality by allowing it to continue without Justice Department approval." The NYT article was based on the Senate testimony of former Deputy Attorney General James Comey.
- 's Jonathan Alter on Falwell-style politics: "He started out as a segregationist who harshly attacked Martin LutherKing through the 1960s and later called Archbishop Desmond Tutu ofSouth Africa a phony. He was a strong supporter of Israel but openlyanti-Semitic, announcing on many occasions that the anti-Christ wouldreturn as a Jew."
- Democratic and Republican negotiators are making progress on the immigration reform bill. say that next Monday, Harry Reid will hold a test vote on the bill. (I think that means a closed door, unofficial vote.)
- Florida Democratic Primary (): Clinton - 37%, Obama - 20%, Edwards - 19%.
