Bush vetoes funding for the troops

President Bush just got done addressing the nation from the White House, and announced that he has vetoed more than $120 billion in funding for our soldiers on the battlefield.  His objection, obviously, was that Congress wanted to attach a deadline that would essentially end our open-ended, $8 billion-per-week occupation of that country.  By vetoing the bill, it heads back to Congress where they need a two-thirds majority to override it, which they don't have.

Democrats and Republicans are expected to join together and push for a bill that sets benchmarks for the occupation.

Benchmarks? you mean like a system designed to mark tangible progress at given points in time? you mean like a standard by which something can be measured or judged"? Like a report card like every first grader gets 4 times a year? You mean like a review, like every professional janitor gets at least once a year?

There is simply no time for these kind of bureaucratic exercises.
