Iraqi Parliament wants timetable for US withdrawal

Picphoto051107iraq Now we know how influential Shiite extremist Moqtada al-Sadr is on Iraqi parliament.  A supporter of al-Sadr started the petition, and now it has majority support:

A majority of Iraq'sParliament members have signed a petition for a timetable governing awithdrawal of American troops, several legislators said...

Thewithdrawal would depend on the growth and maturity of the Iraqisecurity forces, to ensure that the departure would not create asecurity vacuum and accelerate the sectarian conflict, the petition’ssponsors said.

Just one week ago, President Bush vetoed a war spending bill that called for a timetable for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.  Now Iraqi lawmakers support that very idea.

So who is out of touch now, Mr. Prez?  If these Iraqis want self-determination, we can give themself-determination.  Iraqi lawmakers want us out.  What should stop usfrom granting their wish?

Fox News host Mort Kondracke has a different take.  Move U.S. soldiers into Northern Iraq, and let Shiites and Sunnis go at it.  His column is titled, "Plan B for Iraq: Winning Dirty."
