Rocky v. Hannity Debate on Bush Impeachment
The topic of the debate Friday night between Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson and talk show host Sean Hannity was:
"Isthe policy of the U.S. in Iraq producing successful results, or is itfailing? And, is President George W. Bush discharging the duties of hisoffice in a capable fashion, or should he be impeached?"
Anderson and Hannity each gave 30-minute speeches. KUED host Ken Verdoia moderated the debate:

makes his case and explains why be believes Bush should be . Rocky acts respectfully throughout the initial 30 minute speech as well throughout the debate. While on the other hand, his opponent, starts in with name calling from the get go, and continues to do so through his 30 minute speech and it only gets worse during the debate. Whenever someone opposes Bush or the war, Hannity always uses the term "our brave men and women fighting for our country" as if to show how patriotic he is and unpatriotic his opponent/guest/media etc. is, and accuses them of not supporting the troops.

When you make the following statement, you are dead wrong.
>>Rocky acts respectfully throughout the initial 30 minute speech as well throughout the debate. While on the other hand, his opponent, Sean Hannity starts in with name calling from the get go, and continues to do so through his 30 minute speech and it only gets worse during the debate.<<
My reply:
Rocky and his fans whine that Hannity resorted to name calling, while the good mayor never stooped so low. That is just nonsense. In fact, the opposite was true: Rocky was the one who engaged in the most savage name calling of the evening. In his very first oration (I won't call it a speech), he likened George Bush and those who support him to the criminals who were tried at Nuremberg. In other words, Rocky called Hannity and Bush the worst name that you can call someone in non vulgar discourse. He called them Nazis. Rocky called Hannity and Bush a far worse name than Hannity ever called him.
The one attack that Hannity made on the mayor that might be even be considered personal was the following: Hannity accused Rocky . . . are you ready for this? . . . of being an absent mayor. I know, I know . . . after Rocky accused Hannity (among others) of being a Nazi war criminal, the charge of Rocky's being an absent mayor must (to Rocky and his fans) have been shocking and truly heartbreaking. However, Rocky actually opened the door for Hannity's little jab. Earlier Rocky had pompously denigrated Bush for his long (working) vacation at Bush's ranch in Texas. Under those circumstances, Hannity was right to say that Rocky should be judged by the same judgment that he judges other people. If it was wrong for Bush to have a working vacation away from the White House, then how much more wrong is it for Mayor Anderson to be spending a much longer time away from Salt Lake City's city hall and the business of the city?

Danny,
I read the blog post you referred to '', as well as the related article in Salt Lake City Weekly's editorial . Sometimes other points of view can be staring you right in the face, but you can't see them (i.e. the forest through the trees). I read those articles with an open mind, and I tend to agree that Rocky wasn't all that prepared and could use some "" (overall the debate was a bit unprofessional and circus-like). My disdain for Bush and Hannity blinded my objectivity, and wouldn't allow me to see the overall picture of the debate.
As far as the of the debate, I do agree with Anderson, and my disdain for Bush and Hannity stands. I don't usually edit a post (especially once a comment has been left), however, I made an exception in this case.
