Turning the corner in Iraq

Picphoto050407iraq More proof we are succeeding in Iraq, and that our mission is clearly defined.  All of this just within the last day:

BAGHDAD - Four U.S. soldiers were killed and nine wounded in threeseparate incidents in Iraq on Thursday, the U.S. military said onFriday. In the worst attack, one soldier was killed and six werewounded when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in easternBaghdad.

SUWAYRA - Police pulled eight bodies bearing signs oftorture from the Tigris River in the town of Suwayra, south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen kidnapped two guards and set aShi'ite mosque on fire in the mostly Sunni district of Adhamiya inwestern Baghdad, police said.

MAHMUDIYA - Mortar bombs killedone person and wounding three others from the same family in the townof Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Militantsblew up Radio Dijla, an independent radio station in Baghdad, destroying the offices but causing no casualties, Karim Yousef, theacting director-general said, a day after heavily armed men killed oneperson there and wounded two.

BAGHDAD - FiveIraqi policemen were killed and two were wounded when their patrol washit by a roadside bomb in the Hay al-Amel neighbourhood in southernBaghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded outside apolice station in Doura, in southern Baghdad, police said. There was noindication of casualties.

Yes, some progress.  And there is a good chance that the traditional news media will not even report half of this -- because after all, Natalie Holloway and Anna Nicole's baby are much more news-worthy.

Lastly, you might notice that each Friday there is a spike in violence in Iraq.  The reason might partly be because Friday is the holiest day of the Muslim week.  There are a number of demonstrations outside on Fridays, which means more people in a confined space and therefore an opportunity for suicide bombers.
