BoomantribuneBooman Tribune - 'The Media and the Blogs' Believe it or not, there was a time before blogging existed. It wascalled the 1990's and Bill Clinton was our president. In that era, themainstream press debated whether or not Bill Clinton had one of hisclosest friends whacked and whether or not Bill Clinton was a rapist. They also debated whether he was a crook because of some land deal inArkansas that happened back in an even darker era. Caffeinated_politicsCaffeinated Politics - 'Shake The Mindset of The Bush White House'

Today the words of Walter Cronkite from 1968  come to mind.

There is a strong feeling across America that the war in Iraq waswrong, and our continued presence in that country only prolongs theproblems.  Voters cast ballots in the midterm elections with hopes thatthings “would get better” as my mom phrased it, only to feel now thatthings are just the same as they were last summer.  While the Democratspass legislation, the Bush Administration remains committed to therhetorical war in Washington, and the shooting war in the Middle East. For various reasons there is no one with enough national credibility ineither party to speak out on the war anymore.  The faith of theAmerican public in our politics has diminished severely.  Thatcontinued erosion of trust in the foundation of our country is yetanother causality of this misguided war. On Thursday, May 10, 2007, Lawrence Wilkerson, speaking onNational Public Radio, proposed impeaching President George W. Bush andVice President Dick Cheney. Here's the audio.

Wilkerson is a Retired Army Colonel, the former Chief of Staffat the State Department from 2002 to 2005 under then Secretary of StateColin Powell, a Vietnam War veteran, the former Acting Director of theMarine Corps War College at Quantico, and currently a teacher ofnational security at William and Mary College.

After an interruption, Wilkerson continued: "The language in thatarticle, the language in those two or three lines about impeachment isnice and precise – it's high crimes and misdemeanors. Youcompare Bill Clinton's peccadilloes for which he was impeached toGeorge Bush's high crimes and misdemeanors or Dick Cheney's high crimesand misdemeanors, and I think they pale in significance."

Tpm TPMuuckraker - 'Today's Must Read'

If at first you don't succeed, investigate again.

That, at least, seems to be Karl Rove's philosophy.

As McClatchy and The Washington Postreport this morning, Rove requested last October that the JusticeDepartment investigate allegations of voter fraud in threejurisdictions. Those three were Milwaukee, New Mexico and Philadelphia-- all battleground states.     Read on ...

News_houndsNews Hounds - 'Thank You Rupert Murdoch, for putting the Earth First!' On Wednesday, Neil Cavuto made a very terse announcement that RupertMurdoch has declared that News Corporation, parent company of FOX NewsChannel, will become "carbon neutral" by 2010, three years from now. Ifully expected at least one segment on this topic would be scheduled onThurday's Your World, Cavuto's nightly business show. However,Thursday's show turned out to be an almost non-stop discussion of theFort Dix terrorist bust, including several guests who trashed the NewYork Times and others for daring to question some aspects of the FBI'sinvestigative process. It's as if Murdoch's announcement neverhappened, which is a shame because Rupert Murdoch deserves a big roundof applause for having the guts to take a stand opposed to that soclearly expressed by the majority of the pundits on FOX News Channel. It remains to be seen how FNC will handle this whole thing. It's somewhat more graphic than traditional nightly news fare, so be forewarned.
