- Assistant Secretary of State after suddenly being invited there by the North Korean government. These are the first face-to-face bilateral talks with North Korea that have been conducted under President Bush's watch -- an obvious reversal of policy.
- Congressman Rahm Emanuel issued the ultimate on Thursday: "Today, we discovered that everything we learned in U.S. governmentclass was wrong. Evidently, the Vice President does not considerhimself a part of the executive branch, and therefore believes he canobstruct meaningful oversight and avoid being held accountable. If theVice President truly believes he is not a part of the executive branch,he should return the salary the American taxpayers have been paying himsince January 2001, and move out of the home for which they are footingthe bill."
- for the Democrats' chances of making Senate seat gains in 2008. Former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen is now strongly considering running against Republican incumbent Senator John Sununu. Also, with Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska facing likely retirement, former Democratic Senator Bob Kerrey is thinking of running for that seat.
If we left anything out, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.
