Blue Radar

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • Alaska Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski are planning to submit an amendment to the Democrats' energy bill that would open up drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.  (Please take action to stop this!)
  • On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote to subpoena the Administration to obtain documents about the NSA's warrantless eavesdropping program.
  • This morning, insurgents attacked a Shiite shrine in Samarra.  The attack blew up the two minarets of the Golden Dome Shiite shrine.
  • US and Iraqi police raided a lollipop factory used to make bombs.
  • The former Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, a Sunni, who was removed for ordering his bodyguards to assault a Shiite lawmaker, is threatening to sue if he is not allowed to return as Speaker.
  • Congressional approval is near a ten-year low -- at 27%, according to the LA Times.
  • When Harry Reid said two days ago that Rudy Giuliani had been married more times than Mitt Romney's been hunting, few knew that he actually borrowed the line from James Carville, who said it two months ago at Tulane University.
  • Fred Thompson told Jay Leno last night that he wants to be president: "I’ve never craved the job of president, but I want to do some things that only a president can do, so the answer is yes."  Thompson was elected to the Senate in 1994 after running for the open Senate seat vacated by Al Gore.
  • New Hampshire Republicans: Romney - 28%, Giuliani - 20%, McCain - 20%, Thompson - 11%.  (Romney gained 11-points in two months.)

If we left anything out, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.
