Gonzales no confidence vote set for Monday
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' . While there is some Republican support, a few hard-line conservatives are plotting to derail the vote.
In the meantime, White House spokesperson Tony Fratto suggested that Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who is leading the campaign for the vote, :
"If Sen. Schumer had a conscience he would endhis political vaudeville act and let the Senate get back to work onimportant legislation," said Fratto in a message to The Hill.
As of Saturday, we know that six republicans intend to support the Democrats in the 'no confidence' vote. Since Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) is still not back yet, that makes 56 votes. Four more are needed to thwart a Republican filibuster.
Republicans up for reelection in 2008 might want to think long and hard about their vote.
I wonder if these illegal firings were all intentionally done to capture the media's attention and redirect it from the Iraq bloodbath. They can vote all they want - Bush ain't firing his boy and his boy ain't going nowhere.

If you're right, George...I vote to impeach, without delay. If Congress does not at least progress with the proceeding, we are all (liberals) going to need to rethink our approach to the next election. There seems little question (though I'm not a lawyer) that there is enough material to warrent an investigatin into impeachable actions.
As to whether you're right about the smoke screen - and I think you are, at least to the degree that the refusal to fire Gonzales keeps us riled up on the subject and thus perhaps less attentive to other things, - But I always wonder if there's something else under the rug that we're being diverted from. Something we haven't seen at all yet, other than the war - which they really can't hide.

I have tried to post with reason and fairness and shall continue with the following statement. Gonzales is a dangerous, relatively smart person who is intent on taking away the rights of Americans ! This little clip is shocking in it's candor and insight into how the Government in general(imho)sees the American people!
Gonzales seems to have his memory cap on in this clip as to the details of the case in question but not so much in other matters as anybody who has watched his testimony can recall. 2:28 seconds of our Attorney General, God bless America.

Wow, Sig. Way to go! You're right. You're right. You're right!
And what a great clip!
AND really CHILLING!!
The Attorney General of the United States does not believe that any person has a Constitutional right that is not subject to the reinterpretation of the present regime. There are no Constitutional rights, in other words. That, folks, is fascism!
