Hillary booed once again by progressive activists
During a speech at the annual , Hillary Clinton was welcomed with from a number of antiwar groups in the crowd. Some of her supporters tried to drown out the boos with cheers:
Speaking to the Take Back America conference, Clinton boasted of votingagainst the most recent Iraq supplemental funding bill, but antiwargroups, including the persistent members of Code Pink, booed even that.
Shoutsof “Get us out†and “Stop the war†were audible throughout Clinton’sremarks, but the part of her speech devoted to the war sparkedwidespread boos that eventually yielded to an outbreak of cheers andsupport from Clinton’s supporters in the room.
“I see the signs ‘Get us out of Iraq now,’†Clinton said. “That is what we are trying to do.â€
Although she was booed, Clinton fared a lot better than when she was constantly interrupted.
Her last month against President Bush's war funding bill not only may have saved her candidacy, but also sent the message to many anti-war womens groups that she shares their views on ending the war. The only question is whether her vote was genuine. Many online progressives think her vote was based more on political calculation. Still, political calculation or not, Clinton is understanding that the Democratic electorate will not tolerate any candidate that does not have a plan for ending the war immediately.
