41% rise in Baghdad body dumpings since January
So much for President Bush's troop escalation reducing the violence in Baghdad. According to the Iraqi Health Ministry, the number of turning up in the Iraqi capital was up sharply in June:
Nearly five months into a security strategy that involves thousandsof additional U.S. and Iraqi troops patrolling Baghdad, the number ofunidentified bodies found on the streets of the capital was 41 percenthigher in June than in January, according to unofficial Health Ministrystatistics.
During the month of June, 453 unidentified corpses, some bound, blindfolded, and bearing signs of torture, were found in Baghdad, according to morgue data provided by a Health Ministry official whospoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized torelease the information.
It is difficult to debate the fact that since the surge began violence has increased in the -- most notably Diyala Province.
But now it appears that Baghdad too -- the area where the surge is concentrated the most -- is immune from repair.
Sheesh, damn liberal blogs never report the good things that are happening!
For instance, the bodies could be showing up in convenient places, and easy to recover...why not report on that?
