As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

• Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Lyndon Johnson, died at age 94.
• President Bush has nominated Gene Cretz as the new US Ambassador to Libya.
• USA Today: 22% of Americans believe Bush's troop surge is making the situation better in Iraq.
• Political analyst and frequent Fox News contributor Dick Morris tells Republicans that they should do themselves a favor by voting to end the war: "With the president’s favorability down to 29 percent in the USA Todaypoll, and 26 percent in Newsweek, the party leaders are coming torealize that they are not planning to join Bush in retirement — atleast not yet — and that unless he begins the pullout, the GOP cannothold on to the White House."
• House Minority Leader John Boehner lost his temper during a conference with Republican lawmakers.  Boehner called anti-surge Republicans "wimps," in response to the growing pressure from seven out of every ten Americans to end the Iraq war.
• The House of Representatives passed legislation that increases grants for needy young adults that want to attend college.  It also reduces federal subsidies for the lending industry.
• As John McCain's campaign continues to implode, some of his close friends at blaming his downward-swing on what they call the Arizona Senator's "gay sweaters."
• Michigan Democrats (Strategic Vision): Clinton - 32%, Obama - 25%, Edwards - 16%.
• Pennsylvania Democrats (Strategic Vision): Clinton - 36%, Obama - 25%, Edwards - 12%, Richardson - 8%.
