FBI Director testimony proves Gonzales lied on Tuesday
Today, the Democratic Congress may have got the smoking gun they were looking for. Remember that on Tuesday, he did not discuss the warrantless eavesdropping program with a sedated, hospital-bound John Ashcroft in 2004. On Wednesday, showed otherwise.
Now there is more. On Thursday, FBI Director Robert Mueller confirmed that during that hospital meeting, Gonzales did indeed pressure John Ashcroft on the warrantless eavesdropping program. Here is an excerpt from today:
Lee: Did you have an understanding that the discussion was on TSP?
Mueller: I had an understanding that the discussion was on a, uh, a, uh -- an NSA program, yes.
Lee: I guess we use "TSP," we use "warrantless wiretapping," sowould I be comfortable in saying that those were the items that werepart of the discussion?
Mueller: The discussion was on a National -- uh, NSA program that has been much discussed, yes.
And here is the video: In summary, Alberto Gonzales' Tuesday testimony has now been contradicted by two sources in less than 72 hours: and the . Translation: this is perjury.
What I heard between Mueller and Lee was a heck of a lot of backing and filling and very fuzzy identifiable content. You would like to think that everybody could get on the same page with a name for this "warrentless wiretapping" so that we couldn't all pretend we were all talking aboout different things later.
Perjury? We all know it took place. Is anyone going to actually say they know it. This guy wasn't even there when Gonzales was.
Thin gruel.

Granny, it will really come down to whether Specter stands behind what he said about Gonzales on Tuesday, or if Specter backs down. Let's hope the Pennsylvania Senator has a conscience.

It is my understanding that Specter is a lot of bark without much bite. Gonzales knows what got him to where he is and he is in no way ever going to bite the hand that fed him. If congress wants to get out of the bottom of the barrel on approval polls they need to step up and do something. If it is ousting Gonzales then oust him and keep pushing it till it happens. bring it up everyday all day. Focus on one thing at a time. It seems they have a large agenda that they cannot get anyone behind to make a difference. If Republicans stand in your way. Then our represenitives should come back to their home districts and tell everyone who is slowing everything down. The Republicans seen to have no problem just sitting and waiting for 2008 and then say look the democrats did nothing with their two years of power. Stand Up for your beliefs because we stood up for you.
