(Video) New Iowa Obama ad

Barack Obama is continuing the effort to distinguish himself as a reform candidate, which has a great deal of appeal among independent voters.  In New Hampshire, a mostly independent state, Obama is now tied with Hillary Clinton in a new poll.

In Iowa, the freshman Senator released a new ad about his reformist philosophy:

In today's political era, I wonder whether 30-second ads like this do much good?  Other than telling undecided voters, "Hey, consider me," it takes a lot more to win over voters.  Obama has a very tough task ahead of himself in Iowa.  He trails Edwards and Clinton, with Richardson just two points behind him.  Obama might want to think about spending his money on longer ads, say one minute, even if it drains more money.  After all, he out-raised Hillary.  He might as well use those extra resources to his advantage.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think it matters how long the ad is if he doesn't address independent voters as folks who decided to be independent for very definite reasons. I think the whole Clinton/Obama fight (e.g. do we go back to Clintonism or are we moving forward as a country) is a really important fight in this regard. He needs to do more of that.

I'm sure reluctant to second guess Obama at this point.

And I'm leaning toward Gwen's opinion on the dust-up with Clinton. A lot of the punditry thought it all the way from unwise to irrelevant for Obama to take that up. I thought it was a wise and dignified response to a condecending remark designed to juvenlize him in the public eye.

I think it didn't work for her, and did for him.

Anyway, it worked for me.

Clinton thinks she can beat Edwards, Richardson and Obama by having a condescending attitude towards them. That shows a lack of maturity and modesty -- at least in my opinion. Clinton is one smart woman. I just wish she would start acting like a human being for once.
