Blue Radar

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • CBS: Bush approval rating at 29%.  65% disapprove.
  • The magazine GQ ranked the 50 most powerful people in Washington.  Condoleezza Rice topped the list.  Ronald Reagan, although deceased, came in at #13.
  • The Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas has a whole host of documents about the former First Lady that could be politically damaging.  The eleven archivists are refusing to grant requests for documents until after the 2008 election.
  • Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is going to announce that he will retire at the end of this term, potentially putting another seat in play for the Democrats in 2008.
  • In July, taxpayers in Des Moines, Iowa paid nearly $36,000 in extra security costs for the '08 candidates.
  • In response to her campaign ad that was released yesterday, the White House attacked Hillary Clinton's claim that Americans are not well-represented by this administration.  WH Depouty Press Secretary: "As to the merits of it, I think it's outrageous. This is a presidentwho, first and foremost, has helped millions of seniors across thecountry have access to prescription drugs at a much lower cost."  ("Have access to?"  But at what cost?)
  • This week John Edwards is embarking on a seven-day bus tour through Iowa.
  • On the campaign trail on Tuesday, Elizabeth Edwards slammed Barack Obama, accusing him of having a "holier-than-thou" attitude.
  • National Republicans (CBS): Giuliani - 38%, Thompson - 18%, Romney - 13%, McCain - 12%.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about ityesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.

The White House is full of crap. Just look at New Orleans or ask some seniors "so, how's that access workin' out for ya?". Medicare Part D was a scam, the prescriptions cost the same as regular pharmacy prices. There's a video of Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes out there that digs deep and is fairly long (I had posted it a few times, but can't find it), but I could only find THIS ONE.

Voting for this bill was open for almost 3 hours, when the role call should have only been open for 15 minutes.
