Blue Radar

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • General Petraeus' report to Congress in September will be written by the White House.**ADDED LINK IN RESPONSE TO RJ's COMMENT: 'White House to Write Patraeus Repot' and A Follow Up Post With Video Added To Today's Postings.
  • Fort Carson's Third Brigade is heading to Iraq for the third time since the war began.  They will leave in October, and will remain there for 15 months.
  • The death toll in yesterday's northern Iraq bombings has reached 500.
  • In the wake of Karl Rove's sudden resignation, Ed Gillespie will be in charge of political strategy and message management.  Rove's roles are being divided among a few people, including Gillespie.  (Shows how influential Rove really was.)
  • Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-OH) will retire at the end of this term, opening up yet another opportunity for the Democrats to win a House seat in 2008.  Pryce narrowly won in 2006.
  • Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spent time at the Iowa State Fair on Wednesday, and spoke about his pledge to bring American troops home if he is president.  Here is the video of his stump speech at the State Fair.
  • John Edwards might be throwing in the towel in Nevada.  The AP reports that Edwards is taking staff out of Nevada, and will focus more on Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.  Therefore, the race in Nevada, which holds the second contest in January, will come down to Hillary, Obama and Richardson.  Richardson is campaigning hard there, since he too is from the Southwest.
  • Florida Democrats (Strategic Vision): Clinton - 40%, Obama - 20%, Edwards - 16%, Richardson - 9%.
  • South Carolina Democrats (PPP): Clinton - 36%, Obama - 33%, Edwards - 12%.
  • New Hampshire Democrats (Rasmussen): Clinton - 37%, Obama - 22%, Edwards - 14%, Richardson - 9%.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about ityesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.

Todd, your link on Gen Patreaus' report goes to a "THINK PROGRESS" report which links to an LA Times report. The problem is the LA Times article does not contain the quotes that "THINK PROGRESS" has. So where does the "THINK PROGRESS" article get its' information (quotes) from? In other words, these links and quotes don't seem to match up to what is said, so where's the beef?

Todd, thanks for the information. Needless to say, I'm disappointed with White House officials writing the report. I have faith in Gen Patraeus' opinion -- not some politician's interpretation of the General's words.

RJ,

Thanks for pointing that out for us. I added an additional link to the 'Blue Radar' story you were speaking of, as well an added video in a follow up post 'Follow Up Post for Today's Blue 'Radar'.

Thanks again,

Tony

"Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spent time at the Iowa State Fair on Wednesday, and spoke about his pledge to bring American troops home if he is president. Here is the video of his stump speech at the State Fair."

Biden has that nerve to say "I would get the 160,000 troops home immediately". All the dems are saying that but they keep caving when it comes to playing hardball. I personally sick of hearing that crap, I want to see it.

EXACTLY, Tony!!! Why is it that Biden would withdraw all troops when he is president, but yet VOTE FOR funding this war when he is in Congress? I'll tell you why. It's because Biden wants to go down as the person that ended the Iraq war.

Sorry for the confusion RJ. I should have posted a better link to begin with.
