Blue Radar

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • The number of internally displaced Iraqis shot up from 499,000 to 1.1 million following the implementation of Bush's troop surge.
  • Since the troop surge began, the number of Iraqis being held in US custody has risen by more than 25%.  Today, 24,500 Iraqis are being detained.
  • Congressman Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) says Bush's troop surge is going to fail.
  • A soldier was withdrawn from Iraq after two of his brothers were killed, reminiscent of the movie Saving Private Ryan.
  • Condoleezza Rice will visit Libya in late-October, becoming the first US Secretary of State to visit that country since 1953.
  • President Bush will commemorate the second anniversary of hurricane Katrina by flying to the Gulf Coast next week.  (Nice try, but no one will take your sympathy seriously.)
  • Making his network television debut on Sunday, Keith Olbermann will host a special edition of "Countdown" on NBC right before Sunday night football.  (Remember though, the show will be mostly about football.)
  • Zbigniew Brzezinski, one of the most influential foreign policy experts in the Democratic Party, is throwing his support behind Barack Obama for president.  "Obama is clearly more effective and has the upper hand," Brzezinski said in comparing Obama to Clinton.  He added that Clinton's foreign policy doctrine is "very conventional."
  • At a concert this week, gun activist Ted Nugent joked about killing Barack Obama.  "Obama, he's a piece of sh**, and I told him to suck on my machine gun," Nugent said.  (The clip contains explicit language.)
  • GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee criticized President Bush for failing to solve the larger problems.  "We didn't fight corruption like we should, we didn't curtail spending, we didn't resolve problems," Huckabee said.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about ityesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.

I love the term "gun activist". If you're gonna be an activist, might as well be for guns, right? If we could all just have guns, we'd be fine. I've never had a problem a gun couldn't solve.

Ted Nugent is an ignorant racist. I pray for his kind (Not really though).

"President Bush will commemorate the second anniversary of hurricane Katrina by flying to the Gulf Coast next week" ~

That must be The Persian Gulf, right? Where would he get the crust to show his face in our Gulf - the part of the country where the shameful display of his Administration's indifference and neglect toward those in need in this country,& toward human conditions worldwide, has been burned into the Nation's conciousness - highlighted for us all by the still visable and unresolved abuse and misuse and utter indifference to the people of New Orleans.

What a shame.
