Blue Radar

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • The House on Saturday night followed the Senate by answering Bush's call to expand the warrantless eavesdropping program.  The bill passed in the House by a 227 to 183 vote.  (Demomcrats caved yet again!)
  • In the early hours of Sunday morning, the House voted to pass a $460 billion Pentagon Budget.  This budget was less than what Bush had asked for.  Congress has adjourned until after Labor Day weekend.  (Wow, just to think, it will be football season by then.  That's quite a long break.)
  • The Democrats will address the Iraq issue as soon as they get back from recess.  In September, Petraeus will report on the war.
  • According to documents released by the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Pentagon says it can detain and prosecute reporters under the current espionage law.
  • A US soldier convicted of raping and killing an Iraqi teen has been sentenced to 110 years in US prison.
  • John McCain is blaming the Democratic Congress for the Minneapolis bridge collapse.  "I think perhaps you can make the argument that part of the responsibility lies with the Congress of the United States," McCain said this weekend.
  • USA Today is one of the many networks that has singled out Barack Obama for making the statement that he would never use nuclear weapons to fight terrorism.  Well-known progressive blogger Chris Bowers is rather disturbed that this is even an issue: "It should not be news that someone is opposed to pre-emptively nuking acountry in order to 'fight terrorism.' It should be as normal as thesun rising. It should only be news when someone suports, or evenconsiders, that position."
  • Though she was booed twice, Hillary Clinton received a relatively warm reception at the Yearly Kos Convention, considering the fact that she is disliked by many liberal activists.  Kos Poll: Edwards - 36%, Obama - 27%, Clinton - 9%.
  • National Democrats (Newsweek): Clinton - 44%, Obama - 23%, Edwards - 14%.  (Remember though, polls from early voting states are a bit more significant)

If we left anything out, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.

Todd, you criticize the media for making the nomination a 3 horse race but in your polls you also only list the top 3 a lot. Where is Richardson at least?
