Petraeus might testify to Congress about Iraq on September 11th

Picphoto082007wtc Now we know why President Bush wanted General Petraeus to testify in September.  We should have seen this one coming.  Today the White House announced that Petraeus will testify to Congress either on September 11th or the following day, overshadowing the six-year anniversary of the attacks on our country:

U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the top U.S. commander inIraq, Gen. David Petraeus, will likely testify to Congress aboutprogress in the war on September 11 or September 12, the White Housesaid on Monday.

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe, speaking on Air Force Oneheaded with President George W. Bush to a summit in Canada, said thehearing date was not related to the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

To justify it, the White House is blaming Congress for the new date:

The report was due on September 15, a Saturday. Johndroe saidcongressional schedules would likely dictate a September 11 orSeptember 12 hearing date.

Okay, for once, why not show at least a smidgen of decency to the 9/11 families by moving it to the following week?

Iraq, September 9/11, Iraq, al Qaeda, Iraq, Osama bin Laden, Iraq, attacks on America, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq, World Trade Center, Iraq -- this is getting old.  This same brand of rhetoric brought us into the war, and it continues to be the driving force behind a miserably failed policy.

Yep, this is what they do. Anytime they want to make a point they do it with 911 as the backdrop. Iraq has nothing to do with it but there are many in the country who don't know that nor do they care to. If it works this time we'll only have the American people to blame for falling for it yet again.

Okay I hope I make this post better. I'm glad I brought so much emotions from people. Here there should be nothing but agreement with Todd. I wonder if after Pearl Harbor if Rossevelt used that date for propaganda such as this. While the government used many events to help promote the purchase of war bonds it is nothing like this government has sinfully turned this day into. Many people in America have this false understanding of what patriotism is. Just how warped their idea of what freedom really is. This idea of a post 9/11 world seems to me to be fake. I'm glad our government on some levels are doing their jobs within the establised law to prevent other such days as that day but at what point will Americans relize, I hope I don't catch flack for this, they are under the rule of tyrants. a group that showers us with yellow orange and red theat levels and use the death of innocent people to use in their worthless polticial gain. It should be an unwritten rule that nothing political ,such as the Iraq War, have a major anouncement on that weekend, or week. It can wait or can be said before and there is no reason for it to happen anytime close to that date.

Amen, Robert. I'm glad you pointed out the fact that there are MANY good people that serve our country in the public sector, and are disgusted about our current level of accountability.

And Jon, nothing is more discouraging than looking at polls that show a large chunk of the US thinks Saddam Hussein had a role in the 9/11 attacks.
