Labor tries to stop Hillary

There has just been a major setback for the Edwards Campaign.  The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is holding back its endorsement of John Edwards because they have doubts as to whether he is a viable candidate to stop Hillary.  The board is now considering Barack Obama.

Political sources now tell me via email that Obama's people are pulling out all stops to get the endorsement.  If they succeed, it will give Obama even more boots on the ground in Iowa, and put him in a better position to knock off Hillary there.  Meanwhile, the Edwards campaign will be in big trouble if the SEIU does not reconsider.  He needs this endorsement badly, since after all he is the labor candidate.  According to the Washington Post, the SEIU will decide next month.

Andrew Sullivan says it all:

"The conservative Washington Establishment is swooning for Hillary for a reason. The reason is an accommodation with what they see as the next source of power (surprise!); and the desire to see George W. Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq legitimated and extended by a Democratic president (genuine surprise). Hillary is Bush's ticket to posterity. On Iraq, she will be his legacy."

That is disturbing.

Distrubing...yes.
Something we haven't thought about...no
