Blue Radar

I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • POLL Washington Post: Bush approval at 33%.  Also, 55% want Democrats to do a better job challenging Bush's policies on Iraq, while only one-third thing they have gone too far.
  • IRAQ The RBI is probing the military contracting firm Blackwater.  "The FBI team was sent at the request of the State Department and its findings will be reviewed for possible criminal liability," reports the AP via Editor and Publisher.
  • CONGRESS On Monday, the Senate voted 92-3 to authorize $150 billion in funds for the war.  Although the money is authorized in this bill, it is not appropriated.  That will need to happen in an upcoming defense spending bill.  Byrd, Coburn and Feingold were the only ones to vote against it.
  • JUDICIARY A district judge ruled today that Bush's 2001 executive order that allows presidents to keep their records under seal even after they leave office is an "impermissible exercise of the executive power."  The ruling overturns the Bush law.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL In the third quarter of 2007, John Edwards raised $7 million, and Barack Obama raised $19 million.  Bill Richardson raised $5 million.  Hillary Clinton has not released numbers yet.  Typically though, the candidate with the best fundraising numbers releases theirs last.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL John Edwards has let go of chief media consultant Marius Penczner.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL John McCain's campaign is doing damage control after his comments about Christianity in America.  "The senator did not intend toassert that members of one religious faith or another have a greaterclaim to American citizenship over another," said a McCain spokesmen.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL Ron Paul raised $3 million in the third quarter of 2007.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL South Carolina Democrats (Rasmussen): Clinton - 43%, Obama - 30%, Edwards - 10%.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL New Hampshire Democrats (Zogby): Clinton - 38%, Obama - 23%, Edwards - 12%.
  • 2008 ELECTIONS/PRESIDENTIAL Iowa Democrats (ARG) Clinton - 30%, Obama - 24%, Edwards - 19%, Richardson - 10%.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about ityesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.
