Blue Radar

I post each morning, here are some of the political stories thatmight not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • POLL WSJ: 38% of Republicans believe the next president should "take an approach similar to that of George W. Bush," while 48% of Republicans favor a different approach.
  • SCANDAL A Minnesota judge ruled that Senator Larry Craig's (R-ID) guilty plea will not be overturned.  However, Craig's lawyers have indicated that the Senator still will not resign.  This could prompt full-scale hearings by the Senate Ethics Committee, which is chaired by Barbara Boxer (D-CA).
  • RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM In an interview with the New York Observer, conservative columnist Ann Coulter said America would be a lot better off if women did not vote.  "If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry aboutanother Democrat president," Coulter began.  "It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personalfantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. And it is agood way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, atleast single women."
  • JUDICIARY A Massachusetts judge threw out a lawsuit from a 51-year-old college student who sued the University of Massachusetts after he received a 'C' grade.  He was supposed to get an 'A-', but the teaching assistant graded on a curve.
  • CONGRESS Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), who is third in line to the presidency behind Speaker Nancy Pelosi, spoke out on Thursday afternoon, slamming Congress for going along with the Bush Administration's "chest pounding" on Iran.  "It is deeply troubling to see the U.S. Senate joining the chest-pounding and saber-rattling of the Bush administration," Byrd said.  "I am no apologist for the Iranianregime…but I fear that we may become entangled in another bloodyquagmire."
  • 2008 ELECTION/SENATE NH-Sen: (D) Jeanne Shaheen - 54%, (R) incumbent John Sununu - 38%.
  • 2008 ELECTION/SENATE Congresswoman Heather Wilson (R-NM), who narrowly won her U.S. House election in 2006, will run for the New Mexico Senate seat that is being vacated by Pete Domenici, who plans to retire after the 2008 election.  It is also rumored that Bill Richardson will run for the seat if he does not win the Democratic presidential nomination.  But late Thursday, the Richardson Campaign sent out a press release promising that the New Mexico Governor is only a candidate for president.
  • 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL Although Mitt Romney raised $18 million in the third quarter, the money included an $8.5 million loan.
  • 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL 27% of all Republicans would vote for a pro-life third party candidate if Rudolph Giuliani is the Republican nominee.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about ityesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the commentbox.
