I have an uneasy feeling that, if the general governmental, societal, economic implosion continues, interest in the general election will wane too. Who could "fix" this? It's really too late for "fixing" - and even now Congressional behavior continues to pile on things that support the direction we're sliding, and depress the sense of hope.
This could translate into a carpet bagger election. The "people" are going to be looking for a loaf of bread for the kids, and a dry place to sleep...and while those may be phrases of poetic license, they are not overstating the seriousness of the predicament that looms ahead.
