A wowing Obama speech

This speech at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner was really something.  He's trying to establish himself as the inevitable candidate -- the candidate who will face McCain.  Very smart move.  He accused the Arizona Senator of flip-flopping on the Bush tax cuts.  Obama added that McCain would not be able to say that he voted for the war.  He is already prepping for the general election!

But let's not forget that Obama only has a slight lead in the field of delegates.  We need to keep up this effort nationwide -- tomorrow with Maine, and on Tuesday with Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

1. Yes, he did frame himself very well as the candidate best able to confront McCain even on McCain's perceived strengths - national security. (And i do mean perceived because the ability to start wars is not a strength - even I could do that).

2. I really think Obama needs to get up by 80-100 pledged delegates by April because i just cant see clinton not getting the nomination if this is a virtual tie. Somehow, some way she'll change a rule or
work a deal. Even now the news is mostly reporting TOTAL delegate count which is bullshit. Anything to make Clinton appear to be leading. My only saving grace is that Howard Dean is in charge of the DNC and I trust him.

3. How did you get to be a delegate? Were you working on the campaign officially all this time? You are going to the convention?

Congratulations on all your great work. Thank you!

Job well done, Washington...

Thanks, George. No, I never worked for the Obama campaign. I just volunteered to be a delegate, which I also did in 2004. My brothers and sister are alternates. Personally, I'd rather them have a shot at it this time, just because I had my fun in 2004. It would be sooooo cool though if I could go to Denver. I doubt it though. Remember, these are delegates for the District Convention, not the national one.

I'm a bit worried about Maine tomorrow though, to be honest.

Maine is looking like it will be a virtual tie. . .even if Hillary wins it won't be by much. One win in the Northeast state that she was supposed to win won't make much of a dent in Obama's lead in momentum. Yes they are tied in delegates but Obama is the story right now and as long as he keeps firing up his supporters Hillary is going to have a lot of ground to make up on that front. Even the party mainstays that love Clinton cannot deny Obama's appeal is growing every day that he is on the campaign trail.
