ELECTION DAY IN WISCONSIN AND HAWAII
Even projections inside the Obama campaign point to this being a close night -- not just in Wisconsin, but in . Or is this another ploy to talk down expectations on election night, only to have Obama celebrate a big win? We will see.
Use this post throughout the day to comment on the Wisconsin and Hawaii primaries . This is the last election night before the big March 4th primary. Make us proud, Wisconsin! GO OBAMA!!
PREDICTION: The winner of Wisconsin will get the nomination.
If clinton wins she will totally put Obama's momentum to sleep. Then follow up with strong debates in which she goes on the offensive. She'll then carry OH PA and TX, get Florida involved and take it to the convention and win it there.
If Obama wins, his delegate lead becomes significant, his momentum suffocating to the clinton campaign. He'll then win Texas and Vermont and end it on the 4th. Clinton could continue but she'll then get rocked in Wyoming and Mississippi that week. And the pressure to step aside will overwhelm her.

Good points, all around. Part of this is stemmed from the obvious fact that many Democratic establishment types want to see this thing ended as soon as possible, so that they can turn towards party fundraising. There is so much energy within the Democratic base that many insiders feel that the fundraising capabilities of the two top candidates are being used against one another, and not for the party.
Still, even if Obama wins Wisconsin, I don't really think it's over if Clinton wins the delegate count in Texas and Ohio.
You are right though -- if she does stay in the race, she will get destroyed in Mississippi and Wyoming, which would destroy her image. Hillary has got to start thinking about her future. If she pushes this out too long, she won't have a future in the Democratic party, since establishment types will be mad at her for staying in. I could see a scenario where Obama becomes president, and Hillary becomes Senate Majority Leader.

yeah, clinton needs today and the 4th to go well. She cant say, "wait 6 weeks for PA" if she is not winning in Texas or Wisconsin. Because wait for what? So she can win PA by 4 points? maybe? so she can get florida counted? i dont think so.
Especially with Wyoming and Mississippi sitting there right after the 4th.

Actually, George, the more that I think about it, the more likely it is that Clinton would want to remain in the race, even if she only wins Ohio. By the Democratic establishment asking her to step out of the race, Clinton could play the role of the defiant one. She could tout herself as the anti-establishment candidate. She could play the victim card. "Everyone wants to discredit me because I'm a woman" kind of thing, and how "no women are given a chance." Remember, these are the Clintons. Those that grab power tend not to relinquish it. The Clintons aren't going to go away this easily.
Sure, if she lost Texas AND Ohio, I could see her dropping out. But if she takes one of the two, don't be surprised if she stays put.

This from WTMJ in Milwaukee:
Milwaukee Election Commissioner Sue Edman says turnout has been especially good in a couple areas, "the whole east side, Marquette area, downtown, MSOE."
These are all young areas - East side is where the UW-Milwaukee campus is, Marquette and MSOE equals more college voters, and downtown generally includes young professionals. This is good for Obama in Milwaukee!
Posted by: | 2008.02.19 at 03:23 PM
Great point!!! Marquette is indeed where a lot of young voters are. If they turn out, Obama wins. Looks like they are.

I'm comforted by news of good turnout at college locations as I believe if Obama does not win tonight-- even slightly, the Clintons will spin their win into the inevitable march to a Hillary victory. We just can't afford Hillary for our country. We've got to bring people together instead of tearing people down and that's what the Clintons are all about. Yes we can with Obama!

I'm uncomfortable tonite - worried that this plagarism story could shift a few votes at the last minute. An Obama loss in Wisconsin could be a big problem.
Hey Todd,
I tend to see Clinton getting out after the 4th if things dont fall her way. A clinton will never be anti establishment. That said, I do have a tough time imagining what a clinton concession speech would look like. :) Probably giving Obama the finger then walking off the stage.

Wisconsin has an open primary. I have 7 life long republican relatvies who have jointly decided to vote for Hillary today because she will be the easiest to defeat. (They have professed hate for her before this election.) I just got off of the phone with my best friend. She independently informed me that her republican parents are doing the same. None of thesre nine individuals will vote for a democrat under any circumstances in November. I fear that our results are tainted, and who knows by how much.

I just saw some exit polls on politicalwire. looks like a total obama blow out again. we'll see though.

NBC just called it. Obama wins !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: demostrat | 2008.02.19 at 09:21 PM
he may win by 20% when it's all done. wow. a total wash out yet again. Clinton is on the brink.
It's right in front of us now. The entire power of the Obama campaign will take hold in Texas and Ohio for 2 full weeks. No way Clinton gets both. NO FUCKING WAY.

You make a great point George. This is campaign is like a freight train...
Boy oh boy the upcoming debates will be unforgettable.

TO: Honolulu Advertiser; Honolulu Star Bulletin
FROM: EnenKio Ministry of Foreign Affairs
REPLY: Mr. Moore is prohibited from talking to you by order of the United States Security & Exchange Commission (hereafter "SEC"). The action against Mr.. Moore is an unprovoked attack against a private citizen of the United States, not against an official representative of the Kingdom of EnenKio. The following reply is therefore issued in observance of the sovereign authority of the government of EnenKio to confront disinformation and to provide the whole truth.
You are advised that the SEC has not charged the Kingdom of EnenKio with anything.. The SEC has no jurisdiction over the Kingdom of EnenKio, a sovereign Pacific Island state. The SEC argument is made solely against Mr. Moore and his personal business affairs. Please be VERY clear about this..
Despite heavy scrutiny, the SEC has proved nothing and there were no findings of fact as a result of exhaustive SEC investigations. In other words, SEC has NO proof of wrongdoing by the Kingdom of EnenKio or by any person acting in their official capacities as representatives of the Kingdom of EnenKio.
The only thing the SEC accomplished was to prove its arrogance and ignorance, first by circumventing lawful processes and then by bullying up on a single individual veteran-of-war who proudly served the USA. Mr. Moore has spent over 20 years trying to help defenseless Marshallese families over whom the USA has historically dominated, disenfranchised, subverted and literally poisoned with nuclear weapons testing.
Lastly, EnenKio has never gotten a fair shake from the media..... ever. They generally have an agenda that fails to honor truth in reporting, but promotes the dissemination of ad copy by sensationalizing events rather than embracing impartial disclosure of factual information. When we choose to respond to the recent attacks on the credibility of our national sovereignty, we will do so in full at our site. Much is there now if one can keep an open mind. We haven't found that to be in existence in the media..

Hey everyone. We are riding the wave of populism, and it might be too late for Clinton to slow the wave down. The only thing she can hope for is an Obama mess-up during the debates. That's it. Otherwise, a strong showing in Ohio (which we might even win) and a win in Texas, and this baby is OVER!
Posted by: | 2008.02.20 at 03:24 AM
I'd like to add to Robert Moore's very apt commentary by saying that I stayed up rather late to work, but while I'm still up, I'll be the first to call Hawaii for Obama. I'm doing so before any of the networks! (They're all showing repeats, and many of their websites aren't being updated at this hour).
Keep fighting the fight, Robert. You're a true international hero.
PS. If I don't make sense, it is because major parts of my brain are dying. Thus, I exit to bed.

I think Hillary's toast any way you slice it. I think she needed to win Wisconsin and win DECISIVELY in Texas and Ohio to have any chance. Now, chances are Hillary might still win those states, but all indications are that both, especially Texas, will be extremely close. I think there's a big chance she will succumb to pressure and bow out after those contests.
Posted by: Bill | 2008.02.20 at 08:08 AM
However... after having written that, I also think it is very important for Obama supporters to keep pushing hard, and not become passive with thoughts of inevitability. The Clintons don't fight fair, they'll kick you in the shins when the ref has his backed turned.
Posted by: Bill | 2008.02.20 at 08:29 AM
The way Hillary always sounds so positive about stuff with no solid evidence to back her and then ends up being wrong... she's like the girl who cried wolf. (Or worse, G. W. Bush.)

Let's end this on March 4th. Don't make me campaign in Pennsylvania - not until October!
