Video: Obama takes on FOX
On Sunday, presidential candidate Barack Obama caved in following the continuous criticism he received from Chris Wallace for never appearing on FOX News Sunday. Below is the interview:
I'd say Obama helped himself by doing this, even if it meant appeasing FOX. The network's conservative audience was probably shocked to find that Obama is pretty much a pragmatist, and isn't as ideological as all the other hosts on that station make him out to be on a day-to-day basis.
Let me know what you all thought.
Todd, your post makes it seem that Obama is some weak-kneed person who caved to the pressure of the school bullies. I believe it was a smart thing to appear on Fox, especially with Chris Wallace who throws softballs. With this interview, Obama has been able to hit moderate conservatives and Blue-Dogs in states like AL, GA etc... that watch Fox because they think the other stations are too Liberal-leaning. The interview was almost more of a conversation than a questioning, and I think he did good. Other news outlets will soon start to point out little items that he did/didn't do right, but the average person will be able to say: "I saw the interview and he seemed fine to me".
I was watching Abrahms the other day complain about Obama going on Fox. All he could say was that this would only legitimize the Fox network. That's outlandish. Fox has the biggest share of cable news viewership and Abrahms is on the low-end of viewership himself. Obama made the right choice to get his message out to people who don't usually hear it. It's time to stop boycotting different venues and look at the bigger picture and a national election.

I thought it was a smart choice. Whether I hate Fox News or not. . .you can't deny that a lot of people watch it, a lot of people take that station as their chief source of news and it is smart for a candidate to use every avenue possible to reach new voters. I think he did a marvelous job.
