Maybe it is true that Al Gore permanently retired from presidential politics -- but that is not stopping him from raising money for the party. Writing on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the former vice president sent out a to potential grassroots donors for '08 Senate candidates:
“Nowhere has Republican obstruction been more blatant and moredamaging than in the United States Senate, where they’ve exploited thenarrow 51-49 Democratic majority to try to block all manner oflegislation,†Gore wrote. “If we want progress on the issues we careabout, we absolutely must expand the Democratic Senate majority in2008.â€
He wrote that it was easy to blame Bush for what has happened overthe past six years and more since he became president, adding, “Butit’s important to remember that he couldn’t have done much of hisdamage without a supine Republican Congress.â€
“The very same Republican senators who have failed us so badly inthe past are poised to once again be in the majority if they pick uponly one seat in the next election,†Gore stated. “We can’t let thathappen.â€
It looks like Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the DSCC are beginning to comprehend profound respect that most progressive small donors have for Al Gore.
is looking better to me everyday, and for that reason I decided todedicate a post to him...the country's pAL.
First lets take a look at Al's new book ''. The Guardian p from his book.
'A drive for global domination has put us in greater danger'- Moral authority, which is ourgreatest source of strength, has been recklessly put at risk by this willfulpresident
The pursuit of "dominance" in foreign policy led the Bushadministration to ignore the UN, to do serious damage to our most importantalliances, to violate international law, and to cultivate the hatred andcontempt of many in the rest of the world. The seductive appeal of exercisingunconstrained unilateral power led this president to interpret his powers underthe constitution in a way that brought to life the worst nightmare of thefounders. Any policy based on domination of the rest of the world not onlycreates enemies for the US and recruits for al-Qaida, but also undermines theinternational cooperation that is essential to defeating terrorists who wish toharm and intimidate America. Instead of "dominance", we should beseeking pre-eminence in a world where nations respect us and seek to follow ourleadership and adopt our values. ...

Not long before our nation launched the invasion of Iraq, our longest-servingSenator, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, stood on the Senate floor and said:"This chamber is, for the most part, silent—ominously, dreadfully silent. There is no debate, no discussion, no attempt to lay out for the nation the prosand cons of this particular war. There is nothing. We stand passively mute inthe United States Senate."
Why was the Senate silent?
In describing the empty chamber the way he did, Byrd invited a specificversion of the same general question millions of us have been asking: "Whydo reason, logic and truth seem to play a sharply diminished role in the wayAmerica now makes important decisions?" The persistent and sustainedreliance on falsehoods as the basis of policy, even in the face of massive andwell-understood evidence to the contrary, seems to many Americans to havereached levels that were previously unimaginable. ...
We constantly hear the broken record words of Sean Hannity trying to get that "Gore is a hypocrite" regardingGlobal Warming.
Joseph Palermo wrote on .
In today's New York Times, right-wing columnist and perennialyakking head, David (Bobo-in-Paradise) Brooks, trashes Al Gore's newbook, The Assault on Reason. Brooks labels Gore "a radicaltechnological determinist" because the former Vice President draws upon thescholarly work of Marshal McLuhan, Neil Postman, and others to conclude that theprinting press, radio, and television have had an enormous impact on ourpolitics. "Gore's imperviousness to reality is not the most strikingfeature of the book," sniffs Brooks, "it's the chilliness andsterility of his worldview."
Toward the end of his mushy-headed indictment of Gore, Brooks snivels:"Utterly at a loss when asked to talk about virtue and justice, [Gore andothers] try to shift attention to technology and methods of communication. Theyimagine that by altering machines they can alter the fundamentals of behavior,or at least avoid the dark thickets of human nature."
It's funny that someone like Brooks, who calls himself a"conservative" and an "intellectual" would be so downrighthostile to The Assault on Reason. After all, aren't people like Brookssupposed to admire the framers of the Constitution and other people who havecontributed to defining our nation's creed?......
It really doesn't matter if you like Gore or not, butit is difficult to disagree with his points of view both politically and environmentally. What once turned me off from Gore was his articulate, intelligent and almost condescendingattitude, is now something I embrace. He stayed the course and proved to us thathe really does care about the people, the country and the earth.

This post isn't a "The Blue State Supports Gore", this was solelyto condense a wealth of information in a single post about Al.. I am an Obama o8kinda guy, but would love a Gore/Obama ticket, and would like Richardson onGore's cabinet. If all goes well, perhaps an Obama 2012?
For a minute, let's take a much-needed intermission from the specificity of the daily political grind and just zoom out a little. Think about the era we now live in. American Idol, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars -- all of those television shows are popular because average Joe's like ourselves get to choose the outcome of something big. More than ever, we are a society obsessed with personalizing everything that is relevant in our lives. We like choice. Just the thought of inevitability bores us.
If this societal trend continues down its present course, then the desire to personalize our world will definitely play a role in shaping the 2008 presidential race. In other words, why just 'vote' for your favorite candidate when you can 'create' your favorite candidate?
It is quite possible that all of the candidates currently running have already lost. None of them -- with the exception of maybe Barack Obama -- was drafted to run. These egotistical presidential hopefuls anointed themselves. Not only that, but in deciding to run, they pretty much concluded that they were more qualified than 300,000,000 other Americans to hold the highest office. Doesn't that come across as condescending? It would not be surprising if the eventual Republican and Democratic nominees were individuals that, as of this date, have yet to announce their intentions to run.
A few years back, many people despised politicians because of their connections to wealth. Today, we despise politicians because so many of them lack both humility and authenticity. By lacking authenticity, it looks as if they have something to hide. Voters would probably respect someone for having reservationsabout running. Translation: if you think that you are the best, you probably are not.
Al Gore, Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson are still mulling over the possibility of running, but have expressed some doubt. If by September the voting blocks in either party are bored with the candidates that already anointed themselves months earlier, then these candidates could be drafted into the race. In the general election, if it was Al Gore vs Fred Thompson or Al Gore vs Newt Gingrich, 2008 would be the most pro-populist presidential contest in history. It would also be yet another reminder of the time we now live in.
It is too easy—and too partisan—to simply place the blame on thepolicies of President George W. Bush. We are all responsible for thedecisions our country makes. We have a Congress. We have an independentjudiciary. We have checks and balances. We are a nation of laws. Wehave free speech. We have a free press. Have they all failed us? Whyhas America's public discourse become less focused and clear, less reasoned?Faith in the power of reason—the belief that free citizens can governthemselves wisely and fairly by resorting to logical debate on thebasis of the best evidence available, instead of raw power—remains thecentral premise of American democracy. This premise is now underassault.
The former Vice President's book is on schedule for its release.
When asked by what it would take for him to run for president, Gore dodged the question but admitted he has not ruled it out:
"I can't say because I'm not looking for it. But I guess I would knowit if I saw it. I haven't ruled it out. But I don't think it's likelyto happen."
, a UK newspaper, is reporting that Al Gore's presidential campaign team is quietly being set up and ordered to remain on stand-by:
Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team inpreparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bidfor the White House.
Two members of Mr Gore's staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000say they have been approached to see if they would be available to workwith him again.
Al Gore, who was busy this weekend Columbia's right-wing dictator during a climate change summit, probably did not want this campaign story coming out. Nonetheless, it confirms the suspicions of and , who predicted last week that Gore was thinking about getting in the race.
In recent days, the Clintons and their high-ranking supporters have begun preempting any future announcement by Al Gore that he will enter the presidential race. If you look at what has been said this week, Bill Clinton and especially James Carville are daring him to throw his name into the hat. All of this was said on the same day. A coincidence? With the Clintons, not likely.
Thursday night on Larry King Live, that Gore might run:
"..you have got the prospect that vice president Gore might run."
That was apple sauce compared to what came out of Carville's mouth earlier that day at :
"Gore will run again because, quoting George Will, running for president is like sex: 'You don't do it once and forget about it.'"
Barely any talk about the former Vice President up until this point, and then bam! You get Bill Clinton and James Carville, two of the most successful political strategists during the 1990s, bringing up Al Gore in the span of just a few hours. Coincidence? Or is there a possibility that the Clinton team is now in the process of game-planning for a Gore arrival into the presidential race?
To me, they appear to be daring Gore to get in. Politically speaking, if that did happen, John Edwards' presidential hopes would be toast. A lot of Edwards' support comes from online activists. Without the backing of some the top blogs, such as Kos, the former North Carolina Senator would have little infrastructure left standing.
Deep down, I know that some bloggers -- and I will include myself -- have a fantasy scenario of Gore declaring his candidacy in September, beating Clinton in the primaries, and then going on to win the general election. Not that I even want that to happen, or think it would be best for the party in the long run. In fact, I have yet to be convinced that Gore is electable. But there is that inner yearning for 2008 to end up how 2000 should have been.
I give it a 20% chance that Gore will enter the race. A lot of it depends on his Nobel Peace Prize, and whether the former Vice President can raise enough money in a matter of weeks. Either way, the buzz has the Clinton family worried, clearly bothered and strangely obsessed.

This post is the first of more to come as more informationbecomes available. This information was obtained through the CommunicationsDirector of the Office of Al Gore and Mrs. Tipper Gore.
Global Warming information is readily available and will bepart of future posts, but this is directed towards the people that can notsay Al Gore without following it up with the word Hypocrite.
As of April 1, the city of Belle Meade (the city withinthe city of Nashville) made it legal for the Gores to put solar panels on theirhouse. We are just waiting for the zoning commission to OK their specificplan now.
Former Vice President and Tipper Gore have worked for thirty years to try tosolve the climate crisis. Their efforts include:
24 years of public service including Former Vice President Gore’s work tofind agreement on the Kyoto Protocol, the global warming treaty, which mandatescuts in global warming pollution.
Helping to create the Academy Award winning documentary film and writing thecompanion book “An Inconvenient Truth†which has educated millions ofAmericans, as well as people around the world. The Gores donated all oftheir profits from these efforts to a new non-profit organization, the Alliancefor Climate Protection, to continue their educational mission about globalwarming.
Giving the slideshow, which serves as the basis for the book and film, over1,000 times in the U.S. and around the world.
Helping to establish and serving as the lead trainer for The Climate Project, anon-profit organization that already has trained 1,000 people in the U.S. andoverseas on the slideshow that serves as the basis for “An InconvenientTruth.†The trainees agree to give the slideshow in their respectivecommunities to help educate people about the climate crisis. Mrs. Goresells her photography through Mitchell Gold Bob Williams with all proceedsgoing to fund The Climate Project.
Donating more than $1 million to non-profit organizations dedicated to climatechange awareness efforts. Establishing two new companies—Current TV and Generation InvestmentManagement—both of which are carbon neutral.
In addition, the Gores take many steps in their own life to reduce their carbonfootprint. These include:
-Owning and driving hybrid-electric vehicles -Purchasing green power (solar, wind, and methane gas through the local utility)to power their home. -Undertaking a complete home renovation to retrofit their residence and homeoffices to become more energy efficient. This has involved: installing newfloor radiant heating and solar venting systems, new efficient furnaces andwindows, thermostats, and light switches as well as compact fluorescent bulbs, and solar panels. This renovation is scheduled to be completed by May2007. -Living a carbon neutral life.
**What does it mean to live carbon neutral? The Gore’s participate in a carbonneutral program whereby offsets are purchased with organizations that work toreduce carbon emissions through renewable energy initiatives, such as thedevelopment of solar and wind power. These carbon-offset purchases are evaluatedby a third-party firm to ensure that the Gores have effectively neutralized theimpact of their own carbon emissions.
After all the Gore's do in order to live"Green", anyone that continues to call them hypocrites, either haveinvestments where admitting Global Warming exists would hurt themfinancially, they extremely dislike the Gore's, or they are simplyignorant.
What seems to be night after night, Sean Hannitygrills his guests on Gore and whether he is a hypocrite or not, and usually getsto his "yes or no" bullying. In the following videos (there are manymore) even guests that disagree with everything Gore says or stands for, refuseto agree with Hannity that he is a hypocrite. When he does have someone"bad-mouth" Gore, it's usually a made up sarcastic remark. Hannitywill often run the names of people that oppose Global Warming on the crawl.
Here is your latest dose of fair and balanced journalism. Last night on the hit Fox News show "HANNITY and colmes", right-wing author Christopher Horner compared environmentalists like Gore to the Unabomber. Read this transcript for yourself:
HANNITY: But again, if we're having this real disaster -- civilization is in jeopard -- why doesn't he just reduce his pollution of the planet?
HORNER: Yeah, it's about time somebody in this movement other than the Unabomber go off the grid, swear off private jets and start walking the talk.
This is by every means outrageous. But it's not the first time that a supporter of the American Enterprise Institute think-tank went off the deep end and made this Unabomber comparison. Robert Tracinski, a conservative philosopher, wrote just that in a January 2, 2000 column titled, "." And it just so happens that the American Enterprise Institute is the same right-wing group bribing scientists by if they agree to publicly debunk global warming. Very sad.
If you have Showtime, set your Tivos and other DVD recorders. This Sunday at 8 PM ET, Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth":
This is two weeks afterits director, Davis Guggenheim, won the best documentary Oscar, stirring up detractors who sneer at Gore’s crusade as â€a convenientlie†while lumping him with crackpots, lefties and that Hollyweirdcrowd.
This is absolutely huge! Most Americans who saw the movie tended to go either because they liked Al Gore or they had very strong opinions about global warming. Starting this Sunday, the movie will be broadcast in front of a much wider audience. We will see how Gore's powerpoint is accepted among a more eclectic demographic.
