(Video) Elizabeth Edwards and Ann Coulter go at it

Elizabeth Edwards confronted conservative columnist Ann Coulter over the phone today on Hardball.  The wife of John Edwards took offense to comments made by Coulter yesterday on Good Morning America.  Coulter said of Edwards, "I'll just wish he'd been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

Today, Elizabeth called in and asked for Ann to apologize on Hardball.  You might guess how that went:

EDWARDS: You're asking us to participate in a dialogue that is based on hatefulness and ugliness, instead of on the issues.  And I don't think that's serving them or this country very well.

{applause from audience}

MATTHEWS: Thank you very much, Elizabeth Edwards.  So do you want to -- you have all the time in the world to respond.

COULTER: I think we've heard all we need to hear.  The wife of a presidential candidate is asking me to stop speaking.

This turned out to be a net-positive for both Elizabeth and Coulter.  Elizabeth stood up for her husband, and will obviously use this as a way to rally her supporters.  Coulter, as impolite as she always is, will probably include this exchange in her next column.

Elizabeth is right that the political tone in this country needs improvement.  In this exchange, she clearly came across as the more mature of the two -- that is an understatement.

Oh, The Humanity!

Disclaimer: First I would like to apologize for exposing anyone to thisdespicable individual, despicable to say the least. Her hateful ways equal thatof some of history's most notorious evil dictators, militant hate and warmongers. I truly believe if there were a puppy in her way, rather than walkaround it, she would not merely "nudge" it out of the way, but hauloff and kick it.

Who is this person? (with butterflies in my stomach and wincing) Ann Coulter.I do not think she is worthy of getting any publicity, however this particularpiece of hers should be broadcast worldwide, to show exactly how much of ahateful jackass she really is (at least to those that think she's just a"speaks her mind kind of gal")

The Salon reported on her article "IfAt First You Don't Appease - Cry, Cry Again"

She has quite a few charms in the article such as "Who's runningthis holocaust in Darfur, FEMA?"

"These people can't even wrap up genocide," Coulter writes."We've been hearing about this slaughter in Darfur forever -- and theystill haven't finished. The aggressors are moving like termites across thatcountry. It's like genocide by committee. Who's running this holocaust in Darfur,FEMA?"

If your stomach can handle more, or if you want to see it with your own eyes, just go to MissCompassion's article. If you want to see an extension of "Ripley's Believeit or Not", poke around her website, and don't pass up her chat link (yes, there are more people like her)

For Edwards, one step forward, one step back

There is little doubt that Ann Coulter's verbal smear of John Edwards helped the former North Carolina Senator's campaign.  Just hours after the incident, the Edwards Campaign sent out an email that encouraged its supporters to help raise $100,000 in "Coulter-Cash."  In terms of money, the weekend was definitely a success for Edwards.

However, on Sunday, Edwards was over-shadowed by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton -- both of which appeared in Selma, Alabama, the symbolic birthplace of the civil rights movement.  While Obama and Clinton spoke at predominantly black churches, Edwards was embarrassingly desperate to get some media exposure that day.  This excerpt from an AP story on Edwards only makes you feel sorry for the guy:

Democratic presidential contender John Edwards on Sunday called a janitors' campaign for better wages at theUniversity of California, Berkeley, a continuation of the civil rightsstruggle that began in the 1960s.

If someone can make the connection between janitors and the 1965 civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, then maybe Edwards is the guy to do it.  But still, it's a stretch.

It just shows how Edwards is saying almost anything he possibly can to stay in the news amidst all the hype about Clinton and Obama.  Ten months before the the Iowa Caucus, the media is already proclaiming this to be a two-person race, regardless that there are other quality candidates, such as Edwards, worthy of getting that same amount of attention.

(Video) ACU Chairman refuses to condemn Coulter's comments

American Conservative Union Chairman David Keane -- whose group hosted the dinner where Ann Coulter made homophobic remarks about a happily married presidential candidate -- danced around the issue on Sunday when asked if he would condemn her comments.

Unbelievable!  What Coulter said was one of the most off-the-wall, hateful comments we have heard in a long time.  I guess it is just too difficult for Keane to say, "You know, she was wrong; and my group, which I am in charge of, was embarrassed by her.  I am sorry for what it has caused":

KEANE: "Whether it was inappropriate or not is something that people that listen to entertainers have to judge.

HOST: "Do you think she needs to apologize for anything?"

KEANE: "That's between her and the folks she takes digs at."

Simply amazing.  Again, it was his event!  Why is he so afraid to condemn Coulter?

When asked to apologize, Coulter mocks

In an email message today, Ann Coulter mocked demands from both liberals and conservatives for her to apologize for calling John Edwards a "faggot":

“C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.”

Okay guys, the fun is over.  No more Ann talk.  Back to REAL issues, such as the people my age that are dying each day in Iraq.  The longer we talk about that conservative loud-mouth and not the war, the longer we will be in Iraq.

Edwards turns Coulter attack into "Coulter Cash"

Being on the email list of every single '08 presidential candidate helps me get an inside glimpse of which direction each campaign is headed.  Within the last few hours, in response to Ann Coulter's vile attack on John Edwards yesterday, the Edwards Campaign quickly sent out an email to all of its supporters.  Here is an excerpt:

This is just a taste of the filth that the right-wing machine isgearing up to throw at us. And now that it's begun, we have a choice:Do we sit back, or do we fight back?

I say we fight. Help us raise $100,000 in "Coulter Cash" this week toshow every would-be Republican mouthpiece that their bigoted attackswill not intimidate this campaign. I just threw in 100 bucks. Will you join me? Just click here.

Coulter's attack was no accident. It happened on national television atone of the year's biggest conservative conferences. Dick Cheney andmost of the Republican candidates were in the audience. She was evenintroduced by Mitt Romney.

Also, on the Edwards Campaign web site, they put up a link titled "Shame on Ann Coulter."  And then it asks people to "Fight back against the politics of bigotry" by donating to the campaign.  Ann Coulter could not have given John Edwards a better present than this.  It is likely that the former North Carolina Senator will watch his donations this weekend exceed those of Clinton and Obama.

(Video) Ann Coulter calls John Edwards a "faggot"

The ad hominem attack queen unleashed one of the most vile political attacks ever during a speech at the American Conservative Union on Friday.  But which was worse: Coulter, or the crowd that applauded?:

Coulter had better watch out, or else Elizabeth Edwards will come after her.  In a fight, I would put $100 on Elizabeth.

Coulter calls Democrats a "sleeper cell"

Picphoto010406coulter A few months back, a conservative that visits this site on a regular basis signed me up for the Ann Coulter weekly newsletter.  Instead of unsubscribing, I just took it as a joke and never got around to taking action.  Today, just for the heck of it, I decided to open the link to her latest column.

Even though I agree that writing about Ann Coulter only boosts her search ranking and maybe her sales, this column it just too difficult to not comment about.  The title reads, "The Democratic Party: A Vast Sleeper Cell."  The entire column pretty much is a laundry list of examples throughout history when liberals have wanted for America to be defeated.  At one point, she even accused Democrats of "inventing Watergate."  The whole thing was revisionist history.

This is my last chance to make this one point since I never plan to write about her again.  As an 18-year-old that stood atop the World Trade Center exactly three months to the day before it was hit, nothing ticked me off more than listening to Ann Coulter accusing all liberals, including myself, of being terrorist sympathizers.  So, okay, I grew up a little since then.  Today, I consider her one of the funniest people next to Stephen Colbert.  Many say that Colbert modeled himself after O'Reilly.  But I think Colbert's character is a fusion of the two.  Here are some excerpts from the column.  Please, just try to find humor in this:

"Fortunately for liberals, the Iraqis executed Saddam Hussein the exactsame week that former President Ford died, so it didn't seem strangethat Nancy Pelosi's flag was at half-staff."

"..Saddam's death made it less of a snub when Harry Reid skipped Ford's funeral."

"The passing of Gerald Ford should remind Americans that Democrats arealways lying in wait, ready to force a humiliating defeat on America."

"Liberals spent the Vietnam War rooting for the enemy and clamoring forAmerica's defeat, a tradition they have brought back for the Iraq war."

"..American liberals, eager for the communists to defeat America."

"..we promised South Vietnam that we would resume bombing missions and provide military aid if the North attacked.  It would have worked, but the Democrats were desperate for America to lose."

"In lieu of the old Democratic Party, which lost wars out ofincompetence and naiveté, the new Democratic Party would lose wars onpurpose."

Okay, okay, I'm sorry.  There is still one-fourth of her article left.  But I won't you through any more.  Ann Coulter will be officially be retired from this web site.  If for some reason I have to report her, I will refer to her as AC (not to be confused with Anderson Cooper).

Coulter wants Senator Chafee shot

Picphoto083106coulter Ann Coulter went over the top yet again -- which is nothing new.  In her column this week she lashed out at moderate Republican Lincoln Chafee.  The title reads, "They Shot the Wrong Lincoln."

The web site Media Matters has a list of some other times in which Coulter alluded to wanting to kill those she disagrees with:

  • Commenting on radio host Melanie Morgan's assertion that if New York Times executive editor BillKeller were convicted of treason she "would have no problem with him beingsent to the gas chamber," Coulter said, "I prefer a firing squad, but I'm open to a debate on the method of execution." She later suggestedthat Times staff members shouldbe "executed."
  • Coulter said ofthe media: "Wouldthat it were so! ... That the American military were targetingjournalists."
  • Coulter suggestedthat Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) is "the reason soldiers inventedfragging," -- military slang meaning the intentional killing of a member ofone's own unit.
  • Coulter arguedthat the national debate during the Monica Lewinsky controversy should not havefocused on whether former President Bill Clinton "did it," but rather"whether to impeach or assassinate" him.
  • Coulter saidof Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens: "We need somebody to put ratpoison in Justice Stevens's créme brulée.''

No wonder the USA Today and the Gazette of Cedar Rapids have dropped her weekly columns.  We are waiting for more newspapers to follow.

Video: Coulter says liberalism stands for "sucking the brains out of little babies"

Picclip072706hardballmatthewscoulterOn Thursday's edition of "Hardball", conservative socialite Ann Coulter tried to justify her opinion that liberals and their ideology are godless, and that they stand for "sucking the brains out of little babies":

Click to watch video clip

--------- Partial Transcript -------

ANN COULTER: "You keep turning it into a person.  I am describing liberalism as a religion.  Yes, I think it is a godless religion.  And anybody who believes in God, um, if they knew what liberalism stood for, as for sucking the brains our of little babies, would flee the building."

Sorry, I'm at a loss for words.

What I thought was interesting was the fact that Elizabeth Dole, the Chairwoman of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, volunteered to be on the show right after Coulter.  It's nice to know that the Republican leadership likes to associate themselves with demagogues like Coulter.
